As you may have noticed, I haven't posted in quite awhile. But, I have an excuse!
I went to . . .
DENVER!
Ah, Denver, Colorado. The 'mile high city'. I went to see a hockey game. Considering I live in Canada, where hockey is a big thing, I was extremely excited to go. It was a five day trip, I spent a good amount of money, and visited really cool places that I'd never visited before. It was my second time in Denver, the first being when I was six months old. So that doesn't really count, right?
Anyways, it was awesome. I saw the hockey game, met a few Canucks fans, went shopping, had a fun with my family. But now you're wondering, 'Okay, great. But how does this relate to the title?'
You might not be thinking that, but either way, I'm going to tell you: I flew there and back on a plane. Yeah, I know. I'm cool. :P
SO, this brings us to the point where I put in a snippet of my story that relates to the flying part of it. And considering the story is about kids with wings, I guess it was an easy selection.
Here you go!
“We’ve got to go,” Dylan said, looking at me. He had a
bleeding forehead, blood trickling down the side of his head, and his eyebrow
had been scratched. Dirt smeared his face and all over his clothes, but I was
sure I looked the same. Daniel stood beside him, his cheek bleeding and a cut
on his upper arm, not to mention the dirt that had made his golden blond hair
look like caramel with chocolate chunks in it.
To my surprise,
Dylan suddenly hugged me close. He wrapped his hands around me and held me
tightly against him, and I was about to do something, like slap him, when he
began to run. He leaped into the air and his wings stretched out even further,
catching a slight breeze and lifting him up. But, as if he was tied to
something, a weight pulled him down again.
“Flap, man, flap!”
He yelled, and I realized it was Daniel, hanging from his hand. I heard frantic
flapping from below me, then, “I don’t know how!”
“Just flap!” Dylan ordered. We were falling,
very fast, gaining momentum, and I saw the ground getting closer and closer
every second. I could see it coming towards us, fast, too fast. There was no
way we were getting out of this one. I was about to become girl n’ feathers soup.
The thought made me
wince.
At last moment,
when the ground was rushing up to me so fast that if I blinked I’d be mashed
against the road, Dylan whipped up in the air, the g-force ripping me back, and
to my horror, I broke out of his arms, falling once again. I screamed louder
than I had ever screamed before.
The wind was
knocked out of me as I landed on something. No, in something. I was instantly cradled in someone arms, and I looked
up to see Daniel looking down at me, his eyes suddenly a lot less cloudy, even
though some white still lingered. Relief flooded through me.
But fear soon crept
back as I noticed the motion I was in, the sound around me. Flapping. Hovering
up and down.
Daniel was flying,
and as I glanced over at Dylan, he was flying too, his wings a lot bigger than
I imagined them as. They were dark silhouettes against the bright sky.
“Oh, God,” I
moaned, beginning to panic. I was in the air. High.
Daniel seemed a
little shaky with his flying, and he looked afraid to move. He looked up at
Dylan, who was slowly making his way towards us. “I can’t hold her and fly at
the same time, dude.”
Dylan slid his arms
under me and lifted me off Daniel’s hands. I was up so high I was afraid to
look down.
“Sorry about that,”
Dylan apologized. “I’m still not that great at flying.”
“The
apology won’t be accepted until I’m standing on flat ground.” I said shakily.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's Daniel's first flying moment! Awe, the milestones. *wipes tear from cheek* They grow up so fast!
